Remember when Roller Rinks were all the rage? Disco was quickly becoming the move music of the time. This tale takes us back to the 70's, when skating was cool and disco had us all on our feet. This is a story about what it meant to be cool, fast and looking good on the floor. The lively world of roller-disco provides the backdrop for this swinging comedy from the late '70s.
The story is set at a 70's roller disco palace where a battle/race is scheduled to occur to see who rules the floor. It's Saturday Night Fever on 8 wheels. This is one the best disco genre films of its day. From the days of Xanadu and Roller Boogie, this movie offers familiar disco music and some fancy dance moves on skates. The songs and the vibe of this movie make you want to dance, sing and even throw on an old pair of those 70's quad skates!
The film may be interesting to TV buffs as it features a number of stars from popular 70's sitcoms. It also marks the feature film debut of Patrick Swayze who plays the bad guy and proves himself to be a pretty good skater, and then some.
Patrick Swayze, who had roller skated competitively as a teenager and was a trained dancer, did his own skating and stunts in the film. April Allen, Swayze's roller-skating partner in the movie, had won the world championship in women's free skating seven years earlier.
