Stand By Your Man, The Tammy Wynette Story $9.99 DVD (1981): The rags to riches tale of country western queen Tammy Wynette. This biographical movie follows her life from her impoverished childhood to becoming a country music legend, and her whirlwind, deep loving yet at times rocky relationship with fellow superstar George Jones.
The life story of Tammy Wynette is wonderfully portrayed by Annette O'Toole, with amazing vocal performances as well. O'Toole did her own vocal work covering Wynette's songs for this movie. The bad wigs that Annette O'Toole had to wear as a part of her wardrobe does not tarnish her wonderful depiction of one of country music's most famous female artists. The script, performances and music are all top notch.
McIntire and Huckabee are excellent in their respective supporting roles as well. This is the not well-known story of Tammy Wynette's life and tribulations. There is sadness and great moments of joy that are sprinkled throughout the movie. Fans of Tammy Wynette, country music, Annette O'Toole and domestic dramas will be delighted with this movie. This is a first rate, made for TV biographical movie that is truly a diamond in the rough.
