The Hank Williams Jr. Story, 'Living Proof', that was released in 1983, is a story based on the life and music of Hank Williams Jr. Growing up in the shadow of his legendary father, one of the most famous singers in Country Music history. Throughout his early career, Hank Jr. struggles with alcoholism and his domineering mother as he aspires to rise above it all.
Hank Sr. dies while his son Hank Jr. is just a boy and for most of his childhood, his mother puts him on stage to sing his father's material, to capitalize on his father's incredible fame and following. Hank Jr. barely escapes death after a fall while mountain climbing, a favorite hobby. While recovering he has time to think and look back on his own life and that of his father's. He is finally able to make his peace with his father's reputation and in time, find his own musical voice and success on his own terms. The movie follows the semi-autobiographical book Living Proof by Michael Bane and Hank Williams Jr. An enjoyable movie for fans of Hank Williams Jr. and Country Music fans alike.
